“I quit Victoria’s Secret to be a Proverbs 31 wife.”
I recently found a book by an incredible young woman. I had never heard of Kylie Bisutti until about 6 weeks ago, but I recall seeing her picture on a Victoria Secret catalog.
Her story is simply amazing.
Basically, she started off modeling as a teen and managed to land one of the hugest modeling successes ever – at age 19 she became a Victoria Secret Angel.
It’s amazing to see how God was with her each step of the way, using her new husband to protect her and inspire her during her journey. She says that she eventually realized modeling was all about bringing attention to herself, but she wanted to live a life that was all about God.
I learned some things about the modeling world that I’d never heard before, such as ‘your body is not your own’ – you do what the client wants, period. She talks about how hard it was to make true friends, and she never feel truly satisfied, even as she moved up the ladder of success. What I learned just made me ill! Even at a size two, Kylie was considered too big to be of much use and had to lose weight to get the good jobs.
I highly recommend this book to all women. Kylie is a great role model for girls and a sweet young lady. I recently wrote a quick note to ask her if she’d sign 2 copies of her book so I could give them away at an upcoming youth conference I’m involved in. She responded the next day that she would, without charging shipping costs.
Be sure to buy her book! She’s gotten some backlash for telling her story and needs our support.
Summary: In December 2011, 21-year-old Victoria’s Secret Runway Angel Kylie Bisutti stunned the fashion industry when she chose faith over fame and fortune and made the switch from supermodel to role model.
In I’m No Angel, Kylie shares her story—from her early years as she struggled to make it big in the cutthroat world of modeling, to her “big break” winning the Victoria’s Secret Runway Angel competition, to the disillusionment and spiritual warfare that followed. After finally realizing that she could no longer reconcile her career with her Christian beliefs, she surrendered her life to God and dedicated her life to preaching a message of modesty and inner beauty.
Along the way, Kylie talks about her personal struggles with inadequacy, low self-esteem, and her near-constant quest for approval in a world where you can never be thin enough, pretty enough, or sexy enough. She helps readers understand that true beauty lies within and that real fulfillment comes from knowing, loving, and serving Christ.
